Emancipation Park makes Kingston livable. It returns to the city a piece of the charm it once had. The park is perhaps the only place here that brings together residents of all stripes, and visitors, too.
Siting on the divide between up town and downtown and right in the middle of the business district, EP is a psychological crossroads that is indeed a place for all kinds to meet.
Emancipation Park is full of people long before sunrise. Joggers and power walkers, aerobic fanatics and casual strollers turn the premises into a beehive of activity in the early morning. The 500 metre track must be the busiest anywhere.
Others use the park in different ways. Parents bring kids there to run and play. Couples use it as a backdrop for their wedding pictures. And lovers whisper sweet nothings on the park benches.
The park is gorgeously designed, with an attractive fountain and beautiful water features. Its flora displays a broad collection of flowers, plants and trees that are exquisitely maintained. Its bandshell has been perfect host to local and foreign entertainment that is always enjoyable because of the open concert atmosphere.
