Sixteen miles east of Ocho Rios, Oracabesa was once a centre for export of bananas until the early 1900’s. The harbour closed in 1969 when it had become something of a ghost town.
Then Island Outpost, owned by Chris Blackwell, bought several acres and opened up the town’s main attraction, the James Bond Beach Club, just off Main Street along Old Wharf Road. The club has a stylish beach, a water sports centre, bar, restaurant and is often used a lot for major concerts.
Oracabessa is next to the residential community of Race Course, the home of Goldeneye, the famous white walled bungalow where Ian Fleming wrote most of his James Bond novels. It is now one of the gems in the Island Outpost chain of hotel.
